(The beginning and end are HIS work)
Nadappadhum adhai thaduppadhum avan leelai
(To happen or to stop are HIS plays)
UdukkaLil saram thodutthavan thalai mudikkaNiyavum koodum
(The one who has matted hair locks and sports a Udukkai drum)
Perukkalum adhai vagutthalum adhai kazhitthalum avan pAdam
(To Multipliy, To Divide & To Subtract are HIS work)
Marum yugam dhorum avan kaNakkin padiyAgum
(All the changing Yugas are according to HIS will)
MaNNum uyar viNNum avan oru kaippidiyAgum
(The cosmos is just a handful for HIM)
Sattam anaithum vagutthavan
(The one who created the laws)
Thittam anaithum thogutthavan
(The one who formulated the plans)
Kuttrap padithu muditha uruthan
(The one who gives judgement according to one's Karma)

  1. Thanks for the lyrics and meaning, my friend. As a non-Thamizh fan of Ilaiyaraaja, I was so moved by the song that I just had to learn the meaning. Your page was so nice to read. The tune is just wonderful. It's in the ragam, Rasikaranjani, which is rarely used in any kind of music.

    After reading your translation, I can appreciate the song even more. And I'm an atheist too :-)

  7. I came to know that Ilayaraja requested pulavar pulamaipithan to write the song ,because he can only have such stuff towrite as Bharathi. Eventhough pulavar is follower of periyar, he honored the request of Ilayaraja.
